Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 6, 2026

Voqu (“Voqu,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) helps language learners connect with other people to practice speaking, chat, and build fluency together. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our websites, mobile experiences, and related services (collectively, the “Services”), how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Voqu.

1. Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to visitors to our public pages, people who create a Voqu account, and anyone who interacts with our platform features—such as discovery, chat, voice or video practice sessions, and your learner profile.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in these categories:

  • Account and authentication. Such as your name, email address, password credentials (stored securely), authentication tokens, and login method when you sign in with a third party (for example Google, X, or Facebook).
  • Profile and preferences. Languages you speak or want to practice, proficiency levels, learning goals, interests, availability, timezone, profile photo, and other fields you choose to add to help others find compatible exchange partners.
  • Communications and community content. Messages, reactions, attachments, voice messages, corrections, and similar content you send through Voqu. We process this content to operate chat, safety tooling, and moderation.
  • Calls and sessions. If you use real-time voice or video features, we process session metadata (for example duration, quality signals, and connection logs) and may process related technical data required to deliver the call experience.
  • Usage and device data. How you use the Services (for example features clicked, approximate region from IP address, language settings), device type, operating system, app version, diagnostics, and crash reports to keep Voqu reliable and secure.
  • Support and feedback. Information you provide when you contact us, respond to surveys, or report a problem.
  • Payments (if enabled). If you purchase a paid feature, our payment processors may collect billing details; Voqu generally receives limited transaction metadata rather than your full card number.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and maintain your account and profile.
  • Show you relevant partners, rooms, or practice opportunities based on languages, goals, interests, and availability you share.
  • Deliver messaging, notifications, voice or video sessions, and other core product features.
  • Keep the community safe, enforce our terms, detect abuse, spam, fraud, and illegal activity.
  • Improve and personalize the experience, including product analytics and experiments where permitted.
  • Communicate with you about the Services, security alerts, and policy updates.
  • Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and protect rights and safety.

4. Legal bases (where applicable)

If local law requires a “legal basis” (for example in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom), we rely on: performing our contract with you; legitimate interests that are not overridden by your rights (such as securing the platform and improving the product); consent where we ask for it (for example certain optional analytics or marketing); and legal obligations.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who host infrastructure, send email or push notifications, process payments, provide security and anti-abuse tools, analytics, or customer support—only as needed to perform services on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.
  • Other users according to your profile visibility and what you choose to share (for example your display name and languages).
  • Authorities when required by law or to protect safety, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (with notice where required).

6. Cross-border processing

Voqu may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where we transfer personal data across borders, we use appropriate mechanisms under applicable law (such as standard contractual clauses) when required.

7. Retention

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, unless a longer period is required by law. For example, we may retain account data while your account is active, store messages according to product functionality and safety needs, and keep limited logs for security investigations.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete certain personal information.
  • Export a copy of information you provided (portability), where technically feasible.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You can update much of your profile in-app. For other requests, contact us using the support or account options provided in the app or on our website. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

9. User data deletion instructions

If you would like to delete your Voqu account and associated data:

  1. Open Voqu and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Open Account.
  4. In Danger Zone, select Delete Account and confirm account deletion if the app prompts you.

Alternatively, you can request deletion by emailing [email protected]. Include the email address associated with your account so we can verify your request.

When your account is deleted, profile information, messages, partner or match-related data, and authentication data tied to your account—including data associated with third-party sign-in such as Facebook Login, Google, or X—are permanently removed from our active systems within 30 days, except where limited retention is required by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements.

10. Children

Voqu is not directed to children under the age where parental consent is required in their region. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

11. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure; we encourage strong passwords and caution when sharing sensitive details with other users.

12. Cookies and similar technologies

We and our partners may use cookies, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies to remember settings, keep you signed in, understand how the Services are used, and support security. You can control cookies through your browser; some features may not work if you disable them.

13. Third-party links and sign-in

The Services may link to third-party sites or let you authenticate with a third-party account. Their practices are governed by their own policies; we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify you through the app or by email.

15. Contact

For privacy-related questions or requests, email [email protected] or use the in-app support options we provide for Voqu. If you are a resident of certain regions, you may also have the right to appeal our response under local law.
